Ken C. Whalen
Ken Whalen practices primarily in the areas of personal injury, insurance law, mass tort, and railroad injury litigation. He has also been certified by The Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Court Mediator and is qualified as a Federal Court Mediator. He has handled appeals in the Florida Second District Court of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and the Pennsylvania Superior Court. He has lectured on various topics, including torts, insurance coverage, rental car litigation, professionalism, and ethics. He has a total of 29 years experience in the practice of personal injury law, 18 on the defense side and the last 11 on the plaintiff’s side. Ken is a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, The Florida Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar, the American Arbitration Association. He has served on the Civil Procedure Rules Committee of The Florida Bar and is a member of the Trial Lawyers Section. He is an active participant in the American Inns of Court, which has a mission of fostering excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills for judges, lawyers, academicians, and students of law in order to perfect the quality, availability, and efficiency of justice in the United States. He is designated as a Master in the Tampa Bay Inn. Ken is committed to serving his community. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Hillsborough County Friends of the Parks, the Hillsborough County Commission Citizen’s Advisory Committee, the Hillsborough County Transportation Task Force, the Hillsborough County Parks Bond Steering Committee, as a founder and President of the Council of Northwest Hillsborough Civic Associations, as President, Secretary and Coach for Town and Country Youth Soccer League, District Commissioner and Board of Directors for Florida Youth Soccer Association, as a Borough Councilman in Pennsylvania, and, most recently as a candidate for Circuit Court Judge. Ken is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to the United States Supreme Court; U. S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit; U. S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida; U. S. District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania; and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh, with honors in Moot Court. He has received a Certificate of Trial Advocacy from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy at the University of Michigan and attended mediation certification training at Stetson University College of Law. |
