Garry Kahn, Attorney

Background:

In over 40 years as a trial lawyer representing people who have been injured, Garry Kahn has earned the utmost respect of his clients, other lawyers and judges. He has been recognized by his trial lawyer peers as the 1991 Distinguished Trial Lawyer; and he has been recognized by his law school as its 1999 Distinguished Graduate. He has been elected by his colleagues on the Oregon State Bar Board of Governors as the 1988-89 President of the Oregon State Bar; and he has been elected as a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. In 1996, and every year since, his peers have selected him to be listed among The Best Lawyers in America.

Along the way, since 1962, Garry Kahn has fought for the rights of individuals against corporate and insurance interests. For 20 years (5 as an associate, and then named partner), he was part of the esteemed law firm of Pozzi, Wilson, Atchison, Kahn & O'Leary. In 1982, Garry left his law firm to form his own law firm, known as Garry L. Kahn, P.C. For the next 10 years, Garry continued to represent and win cases for his clients.

In 1992, Governor Barbara Roberts appointed Garry to be an Oregon Circuit Court Judge for Multnomah County, where he served as a trial court judge for two years. However, Garry realized that he much preferred representing and advocating for people to judging them and their attorneys. He left the Circuit Court Bench and joined his son, Steven, who had taken over Garry's practice in 1992. Since 1994, Garry and Steven have practiced together as Kahn & Kahn, P.C., continuing to represent people injured by the negligence and wrongdoing of others.

Garry is married and has 4 children and 10 grandchildren. When he is not being a grandparent or representing his clients, Garry is probably spending time at the Oregon Coast or golfing.
