James Wattigny became board certified in Civil Trial Law by the Board of Trial Advocacy, an ABA accredited organization, on April 11, 1995. Wattigny then joined a group of only 1,700 lawyers nationwide who were certified by NBTA.

NBTA was developed out of concern of quality of trial advocacy in the courtroom and is a non-profit consumer advocacy group dedicated to aiding the public in finding experienced and highly qualified trial attorneys to assist them through the court system.

Requirements for National Board of Trial Advocacy certifications include numerous trials to jury verdict or judgment; continuing legal education; submission of a trial court brief for review; attorney and judicial references; proof of good standing in the legal profession; and a day long examination on trial techniques, evidence and ethics.

The National Board of Trial Advocacy, whose standards have been approved in a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, remains in the vanguard and has set the standard with the most rigorous certification process and the most widely recognized board certification of legal specialists in the nation.
